Borings projects

I won't pretend I will sew more for 2017 because this a resolution I probably can't keep.At least I will try to update more and to post more on my blog that's something I can do with a bit of effort.S let's start with things I have done.

I did a few little things not much interesting .A mix of linen cotton leftover fabric I had for a long time.The color isn't great and never find a decent thing to do with it.I did a huge drawstring bag to use at work. As a baker , we clean ourself our apron  and cloth with a washing machine instead of paying another compagny to do it .The bag we had have a good 20 years of service and was pretty damage , so it was time to replace it .The fabric is strong and I did double stitches so I think it may last for at least 10 years or more.

Squarres of fabric to be stitch together and being transform into a blanket.I did a few in the past and still I have the impression I have hundred of those squarre. It feel it's never ending .It's a kind of on the side project , working on it sometimes when I find motivation.

Cotton flannel blanket I finish and have been on the stash for years.Mostly done with leftover fabric. My mom knew someone who had a little girl and will appreciate it. It's reversible , soft and just cute .I could keep it for my own daughter but I thought it will do a nice gift.

News of april

I haven't blog much recently mostly due to my come back to work.My daughter as start the daycare later then expect but I think it's for the best.In the same time , I no longer have a sewing room.Soon it will be my daughter bedroom , it's almost done.

With my job and the kids it's difficult to find time to sew .When I do it , I don't have much time.I do have start a few things which I hope to be able to show soon.Now I'm learning to sew with my kids playing around and try to be more careful with what is accessible to those littles hands.

Next project on their ways

 Now that I have publish the last post about my dress from the renaissance challenge , it's time to go on.My sewing room is clean (not a greenhouse anymore) and the idea to start something is exciting.I will be at home with my baby girl until next march , so I decided if I manage well my time I could do sewing.

 For myself , three summer top in knit fabric I had for a long time.For the style I want , I have to make it. The only top I would like to buy this year was a polo from Sears but 40$ ,too expensive , because I want 2 or 3 of them.They were recently in sold but they do  not have my size anymore.

 I don't remember why I buy this fabric , totally not me.I will use it to make something for my mom as a christmas gift.It will suit her better then me.

A beautiful blue chinese brocade I buy a long time ago.I decided to used it.I will make a dressing gown as a christmas gift for a friend ( which is not Gwenyver ).

 I already have most pattern I need , except for 2.That's the advantage to buy in advance , when you need it you already have it.I admit I was suppose to do it years ago.That's part of the list of things I was suppose to do a long time ago.

Last weekend my little family and I went in the chinatown .I found this cute little outfit for 20$.It will be the halloween costume for my little girl.Some may say it's expensive for a one time wear but it will also be a souvenir.They were so many cute outfit for child I  would like to buy.Sadly I must say chinatown is not a place for very young kids : the shop are small and there is stairs to enter in almost every to not say every shop.That was a big problem with the stroller.

I did found in my stuff a pattern that can be use to make something similar or possibly cross over clothing for baby.

I did buy and give in advance to my honey for father's day the serie Black sails.This mean I may do to my son  a captain Flint inspired costume for halloween or something to match his little sister I'm not sure yet.

I do watch a lot of tv when I breastfed , all the serie I missed or wish to see : black sails , the white queen , game of throne - I stop at the end of the 2nd season , Jonathan and mister Norrel - I don't recall the exact name , that's something my honey had talk about , once upon a time , outlander  .

And for christmas.Yes you have read correctly , christmas.This year I do not work and stay at home with my girl so my budget is tight.I will try to make at least 80% by myself and not buy much.I have so many extraordinary fabric which can be used to make gift and I firmly intend to use it.It also help to make place .Having that in mind , I will not buy any decorations for the tree , except for some geeky stuff but no more then 3 .I can make decorations with what I have at home.There is so many thing which can be done and I'm sure my son will like to help.

So far it seem there will be no Tournament of the Lys d'argent this year.Last year it has change the place where it was held and was 2h of driving from my home.There is a medieval festival not too far from home so I'm thinking about going to it.It will depend if I had time to make something new and if the day is not too hot.

What's up for 2015

Well , first I'm not dead.I haven't write for while due to a busy schedule .I will try to post as much as possible before the arrival of my baby girl which will be somewhere in march.My pregnancy is going perfectly and I still have take less weight then the first time due to everyday exercise and a more then healthy food.

I will present , or will continue to be exact , my italian renaissance unfinish project which was made for The IRCC 4 challenge.For christmas , my honey had made some reparations on my sewing dummy which make it now really functional .It will be more easier to take picture and working with it.

Projects to come and recents news

I have been quite for a while now.You may have read that I participate to the Italian renaissance costume challenge which have start officially in june and last until the end of september.Due to a pregnancy which have make me feel really sick and drain all my energy , I was force to quit at the beginning of the month.

Leaving the challenge was difficult and not good for my moral.Worst of all , right now , I'm being treat like if I have diabetes and I have not .Having overweight member in my family sitting all day on the cough is not a increase risk for me to become diabetic.My son was 10 pounds but I never had diabetes during my previous pregnancy.

I was told to do things which I am not comfortable to do as a prevention way to make sure I will not become diabetic but it's difficult to accept .I am not sick but being treat like I am make me stressed and anxious.My morning sickness (or all day sickness)are back in force because of that.My honey does not support me and I feel really alone.I will have a serious conversation with my midwife but I won't see her until next month so right now , I have to suck it in and do as I was told like my honey remember me.

On an happier note, I will post all the pictures of what I have done for the challenge by monday.The pictures are not available anymore on the web site of the challenge .I will be able to give more detail about how I did everything and the reason of the choice I made.

I will try to be a little more active on my blog for the month to come.Sewing right now is one of my consolation .So come back soon.

Projects for this year

 No I haven't start anything at the moment but I'm in the planning process.The truth is I haven't done a lot last year , to not say nothing.I had a lack of motivation and so many others things to do.This year having more free time to enjoy hobby and sewing is in the top of the list.

It will probably start with a few simplicity tops I wish to make and for each of them I already have fabric.More then one choice I think ,  except for the 1916 which I would love to make in cashmere.

Simplicity patterns I wish to do , 1916 and 1613.There is one or two others I'm looking at but not sure at the moment.

Now the BIG thing.My friend Gwenyver post a fews weeks ago sewing challenges that are going to take place this year.By definition I hate that kind of thing simply because as a mom of a 2 years old boy I don't have time to fit in deadline.In my free time I want to make what I want but this time it's different.

I did receive for christmas seasons two and three of the serie The Borgia.I finish them quickly and since that time  I want so much to make something from that era.That's how I found this challenge on Gwenyver blog.

After thinking seriously about it I decided I will make it.It not only represent a challenge for sewing but a major point of organisation.

Let's be honest , I never done something with so much historical accuracy.For the average seamstress I am it won't be easy.I'm actually doing A LOT of research of what and how it is made to prepare myself for this.I never done even the more simple chemise made of rectangle with gussets and gores.

The point of organisation , that will be the biggest challenge.I'm a mom and I work , my schedule is always full of cleaning the house and all that kind of stuff.During the summer I do work little , sometimes only 3 days a week which include a day during the weekend.I will have 2 free day , my son being at the daycare,to work on the project and time when he is asleep.I also have 2 weeks of vacations which I never know what to do because no one else is having vacation at the same time.With a little help of my honey , I could make it.

Hopes and wishes for 2014

Happy new year to all visitors and followers of my blog.I hope all of you had a great holiday time.Mine include a lot of smile and visitors.I think I made a lot of people happy with all the special sweets I made for those having food allergy.

My hopes and wishes for this year is to work hard on the costuming group I create with my friend Gwenyver.I did a lot of promo in the last two weeks.I want to make my sewing room for practical and ready before the end of the month.This year I want to sew more , create more costume and reuse those in the wardrobe who haven't been use for a long time.I have a lot of project and idea and I want to make them , not just thinking of them.

If you haven't see it yet , American duchess is preparing A LOT of wonderfull shoes for this year.My wallet is already screaming .Take a look on the new beauty .

I haven't sew a lot in the last year and now the motivation and inspiration is finally back.I hope I will have a lot of things to show.I have at least 3 occassions to wear costumes this year.

I wish to everyone to start the new year with joy , hapiness and good health .May the good fortune smile to you .

Costuming picnic is report

Due to the bad weather of yesterday and the one announce for today , we have decided to report the pic nic to next saturday july 27.If I didn't post it yesterday like I should do , we had no electricity during a few hours .

My recents activities

I didn't post as much as I wish to do.My honey is sometimes glue to the computer but I have a lot to post .I have more free time during the summer so I will try to use it.

 

 In the middle of june it was my friend Gwenyver birthday.As a baker I do 50% of the year is dedicated of making chocolate so making special cake is not something I do a lot.For her birthday I make her this cake  at home which mean I do not have access to all the professionnal stuff .

 Fabric which need ironing.I spend an hour to do it .I had enough leftover to do an entire new kimono which make me happy.Am I going to fit in is another question .

A recent buy , a wonderfull felt hat from somewhere in the 60's.I'm doing a complete cleanup and restauration job on it .I will have a post later on that.

I'm also preparing my costume for the picnic.Mine will be something I buy but I'm excited about it.It will arrive by UPS today.I do have many things  to post so come soon.Have a nice and sunny day everyone.

Back at work

OUF! The end of february and the entire month of march have been rough.I was sick for two weeks follow by my son and my honey get really sick recently.Now we are all well but I haven't done much during that time.

Since we moove in november I haven't sew.Now I'm ready to be back at the work because spring is arrive and it tells me I will need costumes in the next few month.

I do add blog in the list and I will add some adress in the shopping post.Spring is always a good time to clean and start things.I think it could be apply to my blog.I'm writing a lot right now to be able to post more regularly like before.

It seem my last post on when passion become obsession :corset training was a hit.It have been view more then 200 times.I touch a sensitive point with that.


Thanks to those of you who read my blog.I will try to improve it in the futur.I like to hear your comment so don't be shy.If there is other sensitive point you would like me to talk about , let me know.I do have the reputation to be sometimes too frank but it's not always a bad thing .

My project for this year

I'm a bit late but I hope everyone had a great christmas time.I've been really busy.We move , I'm back to work and my son goes to the daycare.I finish install and clean  what is now my sewing room.I haven't touch to a sewing project since at least two months now.

In 2012 I did not do a lot of thing so I won't do a review.I only do the costumes we wear for the picnic during the summer.At the begining for this year I was a new mom so you can guess where my priority goes.

Now for 2013.I' planning to make  vikings costumes for the medieval festival in september.There is a lot of viking during the festival and I think it's better then fantasy costume.It help to create an atmosphere.It may seem far but right now I haven't found a balance between , work , my  son , laundry and other cleaning task.Most of the time when my son go to the bed I do the same because I'm so tired.

Like always I do have a lot of project in my mind.I really wish I could be able to do more this year.By february I might be back on the track and post more regularly.Now my little sunshine is waiting for me.See ya.

A fresh new start

My little family and I just move in a new greater appartment.Now every room have a door and my son have his own bedroom.There is box everywhere but it slowly become something.People always have something special to tell about when they move.Remember curiosity is not always a good thing.

 

My cat visit a closet  which is partially use to hide the hot water tank.Curiosity force him to see what it is and jump on it.He fall on the back of the tank.There is no place for a human to stand behind it and my hand is too big to entirely pass on the side.He probably stay an hour or more there until I heard noise and realize I didn't see him since a long time.When I found him he was so scare  .Hopefully with a cord my honey and I remove him from this place and close the space to enter .Thanks for my smalls hands.He was not injure .Ooouf !Guess what ? Less then an hour later he want to go back to visit the tank but I was smater then him .I knew it but there is no more chance for such an accident.If we didn't success with the cord , we only had the option to open the wall which is not a little job.Everything is ok now but I'm probably the one who was the most scare in this story.

 

The computer is now in the living room which mean I can write here and have an eye on my son at the same time.So practical.With the extra space and  no more office for my honey , I do get a REAL sewing room.No more sharing .It's small but it will be perfect.

 

A few weeks ago I do receive a proposition for a possible sewing contract.Something that can take months to do and will required to order swatches of fabric and research in detail.I will probably accept if I feel I could do it.When and if I do it I will write about that.

 

I will start sewing by the end of the month , the sooner the better.I have a lot of littles things to do.Don't worry I have many post in reserve and new one will start tomorrow.Until that , take care of yourself and people you love.And remember , curiosity is not always good.

I feel bad

Hi everyone,

                    Today I should normally post something new but I'm really sick.Friend and family know I'm rarely sick so I don't have energy to work on the different post I'm preparing.I just want to say I will post something friday and right after I wrote this , I'm going to bed.

I try to take care of myself and all of you should wear a coat and scarf when going outside.Take care of yourself and don't get a cough or flu.It sucks.

What's coming up

Right now I don't have much time to sew and I wait for a boost of motivation to knock at the door  .My son is asking more and more time and don't allow me to sleep more then 6 - 8 hours per night.I'm lucky when I have 8 hours.

I'm preparing a lot of post for october to be able to make regularly update.I already make a few changements on the main page and also try to continue .

At the beginning of the month I didn't went to the medieval festival like I did every year.  I did a costume for my son in case of but the decision was taken at the last moment .It's not impressive but it's ok.I will post something about it shortly.

Who says october mean halloween.I don't know how I'm going to manage our annual halloween party with a baby who give me a limited free time.Surely my honey will said we should not do any party at all but it's tradition.I did lost two persons I love this year , one of them in august.I won't give up an opportunity to see all of our friends .Do I have time to make a new costume for me , one for my son and one for my honey?Well I'm not sure but surely I'm going to do something.I have to.

I did start thinking of christmas.Yes it's a bit early but I'm going back to work in december and time is like sand in my hands.

Now I'm going back to my research and writing.Come back soon .

Report event

A quick note to say the costuming picnic is report to saturday july 28 to allow everyone to have more time working on their costumes.

I recently change the background of my blog and I really like it because I think it's closer of an old attic.It's only the beginning of a little makeover.I have a lot of stuff to add and write about many subjects to improve this place.My goal is to make it mostly done after the festival of september  1-3.I hope to receive comments about it or suggestions.

May and June

We are in may and like every year I do have the spring fever.I'm currently doing a huge clean up in my sewing room(and of all my appartment) because I have a lot of things to do in the next month.

May
      I must finish the clean up and finish the news curtains .Making a list of things to do.

June
 Starting , if it's not already done , my New France dress .I wish to modify it to something more historical so we will see if I can do it.I must begin to think of the costume for my son for the festival at the begining of september .If time allow it , make a costume for the pic nic in july for my son even if it's not the same period then me.

I'm not sure yet which type of fabric I should use for my son.He's just a baby and I'm scare to use a fabric too hot for the summer.If he's like me , I'm not very tolerant to heat.Any suggestions?

I'm ain't dead

I'm pretty late to make new addition on my blog but so many thing happend since my last post.

November
My honey and I had to buy a new computer and before we get it ,we did not  use the old one as much as possible.It take a moment because it was a question of budget.

My sewing machine ,  a quilt designer 2 by husqvarna viking , is using digital card .The main one doing straight stitches just suddenly broke at a moment I need it the most.After two weeks , I was told it's going to take 2 months before I get a new one because the piece was back order.I wasn't happy but what other choice did I have.

December
The birth of my son before christmas.It was the total opposite of what I thought or expect .I wish a natural and normal birth  and I get a surgery in emergency.I spend three days at the hospital and was more then happy to get home.

January
I did receive the piece for my sewing machine after two months . Hopefully I'm patient and  it was unexpensive.  My lil wolf and beloved son have more then one month now .My honey and I finally get a routine which is ok for both of us and give me enough sleep. Now I can start writting again and doing a few littles things here and there when I am not breastfeeding . I'm working very hard on news posts to add after this one.

My honey is going back to work which mean I will have to create a new routine.I'm confident in the fact that everything is going to be find  .
